Holiness and Constant Prayer
Our sainthood depends on our tur...
Born near Rome in the 4th century, little is known about his early life but his Pontificate was critical to the early Church and the numerous disputes that were developing between the East and West as made clear by the authority of the Holy See.
As the eloquent St. John Chrysostom denounced Church abuse, Pope Innocent I, defended him and tried having him reinstated after his exile though he was not successful.
He also fought against numerous heresies, especially Pelagianism, which maintained original sin had no impact on human nature.
He was also friends with and a supporter of St. Jerome. He died in Bethlehem in 420 AD.
