The Feast of Saints Protus and Hyacinth

Hyacinth and Protus were brothers who lived among the hermits of Egypt in the third century and they were also personal attendants to a woman named Eugenia.

Devoted Christians, Protus and Hyacinth read from Sacred Scripture every day. Eventually, Eugenia followed their example and was Baptized as a Christian herself.

But this was a dangerous time to be a Christian because it was during the persecution of Valerian.

Upon discovering her conversion, Eugenia’s fiance reported all three of them to the Roman authorities and they were arrested and condemned.

Protus and Hyacinth were martyred together, scourged, and then beheaded around 257 AD.

Eugenia was also martyred and became a Saint. Her Feast Day is December 25.

And, of course, we pray for the repose of the souls of all of those who died on September 11, 2001,  all those who have died since because of the attack of 911, and for all those who miss them so much and whose lives have been forever changed because they were taken.

Saints Protus and Hyacinth, please pray for us.
