The Feast of St. Daniel, St. Samuel and Companions

Sent by St. Francis of Assisi in 1219 to northern Africa and an area controlled by the Saracens, it was a dangerous mission.

Leaving from Spain, were six missionaries along with their Provincial leader, Fr. Daniel.

They arrived in the city of Ceuta in late September and began preaching and spreading The Word of The Lord. But it was not long before they were arrested by the muslim authourities.

The Sultan tried to get them all to renounce their faith but, when they refused, they were condemned.

Each missionary, Fr. Angelus, Fr. Samuel, Fr. Donolus, Fr. Leo, Fr. Nicholas, and Fr. Hugo came to Fr. Daniel and asked his permission to die for Christ, and then they were beheaded, followed by Fr. Daniel himself.

They were Canonized in 1516 by Pope Leo X.

St. Daniel, St. Samuel and Companions, please pray for us.
