The Feast of St. Giles

Born in France in the early to mid-seventh century, not much is known about him beyond legend.

However, in the Middle Ages especially, there was a great devotion to him and he was especially popular in Germany and Sweden.

What is known is that he became a priest and then helped establish a monastery for pilgrims who were on their way to and from San Diego de Compostela, The Way of St. James, in Spain.

The monastery also provided shelter during the Crusades.

Giles is one of the fourteen Holy Helpers, which include St. Barbara, St. Christopher, and St. Blase, who are called upon in times of grave danger and trouble.

He is the Patron Saint of Edinburgh, Scotland, the disabled, and those with breast cancer.

St. Giles, please pray for us.
