Holiness and Constant Prayer
Our sainthood depends on our tur...
Born in Antioch, it’s generally accepted that Luke was a Greek physician who converted to Christianity. That makes Luke the only Gentile among the Apostles and gives him a unique voice that speaks to us through his Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles.
Luke, is responsible for roughly one-quarter of the New Testament.
Bible scholars say Luke appears to have joined Paul at Philippi, which is where he shows up in Acts, and tradition holds that Luke was a painter, and especially fond of painting The Child Jesus and The Blessed Mother, including, the image of Our Lady of Czestochowa, more commonly referred to as The Black Madonna.
How Luke died is not clear. Most say he was martyred but, some say he died while writing The Gospel.
It is known he was 84 years old and living in Greece when he went to heaven.
Today, we will hear from Luke, as he tells us how Jesus deployed His disciples, while at the same time calling for more help spreading The Gospel.
The Lord Jesus appointed seventy-two disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”
So, let’s do as Jesus commanders.
St. Luke, please pray for us, and for more holy men and women to help The Lord harvest through religious vocations.
