The Feast of St. Pope Cletus

Born in Rome during the first quarter of the first century, he was the third Bishop of Rome, succeeding St. Peter and St. Pope Linus.

He was a convert, brought to the faith by St. Peter.

The exact dates of his Pontificate are not certain but it’s believed he sat for about 13 years, most likely from years 79 to 92.

St. Cletus is credited with establishing 25 parishes in Rome and ordaining many priests.

He was martyred during the persecutions of Domitian and is mentioned in the Roman Canon of the Mass.

He is buried near St. Linus and St. Peter in Vatican City.

St. Pope Cletus, please pray for us.
