Holiness and Constant Prayer
Our sainthood depends on our tur...
Born in the mid-7th century in what is now Austria, he was from a family of nobles.
Rubert was named Bishop of Worms and set about converting the local population but, after some initial success, many turned on him and he was forced to leave.
Near the beginning of the 8th century, the Duke of Bavaria asked Rupert to come to Regensburg and to bring the faith to the Bavarian tribes there.
Traveling down the Danube he visited many towns and forts and had great success. Rupert ultimately ended up in the abandoned city of Juvanem, which he renamed Salzburg. He founded a monastery and school there.
He also laid the foundations for what would become the Salzburg Cathedral and established a Benedictine Convent with his sister, Erintrudis, who was the first Abbess.
Rubert is revered as the Apostle of Bavaria and Austria. He died on this day in 710.
