The Feast of St. Vincent Kaun

Born in the mid-16th century in Korea, Vincent was involved in a conflict between Korea and Japan, taken prisoner, and then moved to Japan.

It was during this time that St. Francis Xavier was leading an effort to bring Christ to Japan and China.

Vincent became one of the one hundred thousand that were converted. He then entered the seminary, going on to serve as a priest for three decades.

Japanese Emperor Ogimachi issued an edict banning Catholicism then, in 1614, the Bishop, St. Francis Pacheco, was expelled from Japan.

However, many in Japan continued to secretly practice their faith and, eventually, Pacheco quietly returned.

After many years of harassment, Fr. Vincent, Pacheco, and seven other Christians were arrested and burned alive in Nagasaki, in 1626.

St. Vincent Kaun, please pray for us.
