Our sainthood depends on our tur...
Born in what is now Turkey, Aquila moved to Rome as a young man where he met and married Priscilla.
They were a couple ahead of their time, in love with each other but seeing one another as equals within their marriage and able to work together as a very effective team.
Priscilla and Aquila, along with all the other Jews in Rome, were expelled in the year 49. They moved to Corinth, resumed their business and tentmakers, and in the process, soon met another tentmaker, named Paul.
Paul lived with Priscilla and Aquila for about a year and a half.
When he wasn’t working with them making tents, Paul was preaching and among those he converted were Priscilla and Aquila.
When Paul decided it was time to leave Corinth, the couple went with him as far as Ephesus, staying there as he moved on.
But when Paul returned he spent another two years with them and their home became the building block for a new Christian community in Ephesus and they were powerful teachers and evangelists.
Priscilla was very visible in the community and she helped with the instruction of those coming to know Christ including Apollos, who would become a critical partner in the development of The Church in Ephesus and Corinth.
Priscilla and Aquila are mentioned six times in scripture, always as a couple and as Paul calls them, fellow workers in Christ Jesus.
When the order banning Jews was lifted they returned to Rome.
Though nothing certain about their death is known, they were a model for all couples on how to live in Christ and teach about His Love while being a light for others.
