Holiness and Constant Prayer
Our sainthood depends on our tur...
Matthew, Mark, and Luke all tell this story, even though none of them were there.
It happens six days after Peter is asked by Jesus: “, but who do you say that I am?” to which Peter replies; ”You are the Messiah, the Son of The Living God, ”, after which Jesus tells them for the first time about His coming Passion and death.
Today, in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up the mountain, where Jesus is Transfigured before them,
“his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him.”
“Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Of course, The Holy Spirit provides many and varied interpretations of this moment including through the Luminous Mysteries of The Holy Rosary.
In the first Luminous Mystery, we see Jesus being Baptized by John as the Son of Man as He begins His public ministry.
In the fourth Luminous Mystery, we are shown Jesus in His Divinity as The Son of God just before His public ministry ends and He enters Jerusalem to be crucified. And in both cases, we hear the voice of The Father from heaven saying:
“This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”
The Transfiguration took place on Mt. Tabor and it was there, on this day in the first century, that the original Church of The Transfiguration was dedicated.
