The Feast of Our Lady of The Holy Rosary

Tradition holds that the Rosary was given to St. Dominic by The Blessed Mother near the end of the 13th century.

“Hail Mary, full of Grace, The Lord is with thee,” comes from the greeting the Angel Gabriel gave to Mary when he announced that if she said “yes”, she would become the Mother of The Savior.

“Blessed art Thou among women and Blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus” is what Elizabeth says to Mary when Mary comes to help her pregnant cousin.

The second part of this Sacred prayer was added by St. Peter Canisius. “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of death, Amen”

It was at the Council of Trent in 1566 when the prayer was officially accepted into the Catechism of The Church.

Just five years later, The Feast of Our Lady of The Holy Rosary was instituted by Pope Pius V when the Christians won a miraculous victory over the Turks at the battle of Lepanto in 1571, after saying The Rosary.

The entire month of October is dedicated to The Most Holy Rosary and, among many other things, it gives us an opportunity to get our hearts ready for Advent and The Birth of Jesus.

Our Lady of The Holy Rosary, please pray for us.
