Prayers and Devotions

St. Lucy is often invoked for matters related to vision, eyesight, and eye diseases. People who are experiencing eye problems or have loved ones facing such challenges may turn to St. Lucy for her intercession and healing. Her story of remaining steadfast in her Christian faith amidst persecution showcases courage and dedication. Praying to her can provide inspiration and strength for individuals facing challenges in their own lives, encouraging them to stand firm in their beliefs.
Just as St. Lucy’s name is linked to light, her intercession is often sought by those navigating metaphorical darkness in their lives— difficult decisions, uncertainties, or emotional struggles. Praying to her is believed to bring clarity to see things from a new perspective.
St. Lucy, also known as Santa Lucia, was a martyr who lived during the late Roman Empire in Syracuse, Sicily. St. Lucy dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and vowed to remain a virgin. Her devout faith led to her being sought after in marriage, but she rejected the suitors. An angry suitor led her to Emperor Diocletian, denouncing her as a Christian.
St. Lucy brought food and aid to imprisoned Christians, using a wreath of candles on her head to light her way and keep her hands free to carry provisions. This image of Lucy with a crown of candles has become a symbol of her feast day. She was eventually arrested and sentenced to death. The name “Lucy” is derived from the Latin word “lux,” meaning light, leading to her association with vision and sight. St. Lucy is the patron saint of the blind, the visually impaired, and those with eye diseases.
O St. Lucy, you preferred to let your eyes be torn out instead of denying the faith and defiling your soul; and God, through an extraordinary miracle, replaced them with another pair of sound and perfect eyes to reward your virtue and faith, appointing you as the protector against eye diseases.
I come to you for you to protect my eyesight and to heal the illness in my eyes.
O St. Lucy, preserve the light of my eyes so that I may see the beauties of creation, the glow of the sun, the color of the flowers, and the smiles of children.
Preserve also the eyes of my soul, the faith, through which I can know my God, understand His teachings, recognize His love for me, and never miss the road that leads me to where you, St. Lucy, can be found in the company of the angels and saints.
St. Lucy, protect my eyes and preserve my faith. Amen.

O! Glorious St. Lucy, Virgin and Martyr, you greatly glorified the Lord by preferring to sacrifice your life rather than be unfaithful. Come to our aid and, through the love of this same most loveable Lord, save us from all infirmities of the eyes and the danger of losing them.
Through your powerful intercession, may we spend our life in the peace of the Lord and be able to see Him with our transfigured eyes in the eternal splendor of the Celestial Homeland. Amen.
St. Lucy, pray for us and for the most needy, to Christ our Lord. Amen.
